Happiness During Dark Times
Is it possible to feel happy when everything around you seems dark and foreboding?
Everywhere we turn these days we seem to be confronted with bad news – and even more dire predictions that things are going to get worse before they get better. Millions of people are really struggling right now, with no end to the struggle in sight.
What can we do?
For me personally, the biggest help has been simply turning away from the negativity as often as I can. I know that millions of people are losing their homes. I know that millions are losing their jobs. I know that companies are going bankrupt and the economy is looking gloomier and gloomier. Do I really need to keep watching news reports about it and hashing it over with people wherever I go? No!
Here’s something important to remember if you feel like you’re being bombarded with negativity every day: there are just as many positive things happening in the world as there are negative.
Many individuals and companies are still thriving. People are reaching out to make a positive difference in the world. Miracles are happening every second. Spontaneous healings are taking place, prayers are being answered, and joy is just as pervasive as misery.
But you have to look for those things in order to see them. You have to stop filling your awareness with negativity and actively seek positive examples to focus on.
Let’s start in your small area of the world:
- Can you be grateful that you’re in good health?
- Can you smile as you watch children playing and laughing?
- Can you feel a sense of awe while watching the sun rise?
- Are you willing to believe that the Universe is working on your behalf – even if you can’t yet see any evidence of it?
- Can you find a way to reach out and help others?
- Do you spend time doing things you love frequently?
- Are you willing to believe that “this too shall pass”?
I know these simple suggestions won’t solve all of the world’s problems. They may not even solve YOUR problems.
But they just might give you a few precious moments of happiness in otherwise dark times. See the miracle in that, and be grateful for it. It’s a wonderful start, and it just might help draw forth even bigger miracles into your life.
